  1. I guess just for the heck of testing the Job App and the Contact Form workaround. So far, we know every member here, so that’s all cool. So let’s continue testing until something breaks. 🙂

  2. I mean we need a Contact page here anyway. Only in our portals do we show the interweb we don’t want to be contacted! LOL!

    1. Sure, I have lots of ideas, but with a life to live, dishes and clothes to wash, meals to cook, water to distill, codes to check, portals to monitor, bills to pay, mission trips to go to, my time for pro bono IT Consulting is limited. Dev suggested I should open the SH donate button again. For those who want to help fuel the Mission Van. (Yes, it’s a gas guzzler!)

    1. Yes, I have Developer License on that. I could put that anywhere, personally. It has a separate portal for Clients. It works like Slack, where all the project files and documents are all in one place, and Clients can also upload their own files. It has a much simpler captcha on it. I customized it with AGDT. Even has the “Powered by AGDT” and all that jazz. It’s all internal and housed on our site.

Clients can reserve billable hours, and they pay up front. $100 hour. And then the web packages, ranging from $2,500 to $3,000. They can also see my Project Availability. I just put there ME, and “Consultant”, and then farm the projects out to whomever is available. I’m paid higher because I can do stuff faster.

So those who don’t want to pay can learn the stuff I learned by themselves too (and spend weeks, months learning it!)

I remember a Vendor that I met in Houston, I spoke to him on the phone and said I’d drive down because I needed a real good weighing scale, like precise scientific weighing scale for an experiment I was doing, and I was needing a Yamato one – a Japanese maker, known for real good precise weighing scales. He said he had it. So I drove down an hour and a half drive. I initially thought he was a manager or something, because he said he was doing some inventory work of some sorts. So when I got there, he asked his assistant to go look for the item, and then we chatted. I was doing the AXN project that time, and so I was all drowned in e-commerce codes. Then he shared that he had a website that he has been working on for weeks and just couldn’t get it right. And it ended up like an Onsite instant troubleshooting for me, while we were waiting for the response from his assistant on the item. I gave him advise to call BlueHost, I said I knew about that issue, because I also use them on our portals, so he was on the phone, and I was telling him what to ask, what to say, etc, since he shared he just changed webhosts. And so when he fixed all his Admin permissions on the portal, I said I can take it from there, and asked him to watch what I was doing so he knows. I also opened a Notepad file, to document what I was doing, so that in case he wants to replicate what I was doing, that he would know what to do. He said he got victimized by a shrewd IT person, so he ended up wanting to learn what to do too. I just said, “Well, it’s your lucky day! I’m not shrewd, I’ll teach you, that’s easy!” So he “shadowed” and looked at what I was doing. He was needing to use an old WP Theme that he had on his old server, on his new webhost server. So while he watched, I was explaining, documenting on the Notepad file, what I was doing, so that if in the future, he needs to migrate again, he has that Notepad Teaching File from me. 🙂 I got it all done in about 30 minutes. I cannot forget the so very happy look on his face when I finished it! He said that he was working on it for weeks, and trying to figure it out. And then he said just “WOW! What Yamato scale do you want? How MANY do you want?!!” LOL! We were both laughing! Anyway, the Yamato Model I needed, after the assistant came back from the warehouse, said that they sold the last one. So the guy promised he would Fedex me the Model I wanted. And he ordered it, from their business portal, which will come from out of state. He was so happy I helped him, and I said, well, we just made use of time while waiting. 🙂 So when we exchanged business cards, so he would get my mailing address, I read his business card “President”. We never know we get to help! 🙂

So that story is about my $100 billable hour on the AGDT website. Those who have worked with me know how fast I work, if I know what I am working on. Nobody knows everything, but there are software that we can study, document the capabilities and limitations, and then apply.

The reason why I get hacked and stalked is because they think they can scare me into shutting up. They can shut down or hack social media accounts, but I think it really is best for people to just have their own websites and portals from within their websites.

These things I am teaching y’all is about that.

      You get a domain name.

      You get a webhost.

You pick a CMS (Content Management System), I pick WordPress, but you can also do a regular old school website, like this one below

      https://www.shallhelp.com/SH_Final_index.html

(I made that using a mighty old school built in on any Windows devicee software “Notepad”. 🙂

You pick a WordPress Theme. You can tweak the Default WP Themes is you like. I developed my own here. (look below, that’s me!), and I kept it “Simplified” – or looking simple, then added all the other stuff like,

      Drop Down Menu
      Chat
      Forum

You can do that on your own website.

You can use your Forum as an alternative to Social Media where you can post what you want and not have a gag or advertisement on whatever you post.

You also won’t be followed around the interweb. 🙂

      At least that’s the hope.

So this comment is now equivalent to a blog post. It’s CATHARTIC to unload the brain in writing, or in typing.

Recruiters ask me for my Social Media accounts. I know how that goes. Another one asked me about L in k ed in too. I said I had an account there that I no longer visit. My contacts there are all people I know, colleagues or classmates from postgrad – we all have no other social media accounts, back then. I learned from a security breach that happened two years ago that my MAIN personal and professional email got leaked through lin k e d in and I had screenshots of the report I got and security warning I got from my bank that my email was found on the dark web. That got major hacked. It was stressful and so I just kept at reporting and reporting, and they just kept hacking and hacking.

That can paralyze anybody when you find that thieves like that are out to target so many people in their quest for money.

There’s a lot of evil in I.T. that goes on.

So the good people in I.T. WILL come out and start publishing stuff for free so people can protect themselves. And their devices.

I have taught so many people how to protect their devices, because if they don’t, they also are exposing the privacy of everybody in their address books.

Never fill out all the fields in a web-based email’s address book. Why?

When your email portal gets compromised, email addresses and all the fields filled out, gets SCRAPED by hackers – notice how sometimes you get spam from people you know? That’s because they don’t even know that their email address got hacked, and their contacts in their webbased addressbook got scraped.

When that happens, call or text your contact and notify them that their email address is sending spam, it’s not them, but advise them to change their passwords. And to notify their contacts that their email address got hacked and for them not to click any link.

During the C a m bridge A nal ytica breach, my old FB account got compromised and hacked big time. That’s how I can’t even change the email on that FB account without them asking for my Drivers License.

Yeah, they didn’t protect people’s privacy and I will give them my Government I.D. to gain access to my FB account?

They can have the FB account.

So when recruiters ask for my Social Media account, I point them to this website. 🙂

Some say I make myself vulnerable typing all that I type here, feelings, thoughts, typos and all. 🙂

      I go, well, that’s me.

You hire people based on their capability to do the job.

Tell me what you need to get done, I can tell you if I can do it, or if I can’t. Most highlight projects I’ve ever done, I knew NOTHING about the software, but I got hired because of learning agility and my promise to do my best. That’s all we can really do.

I will not PAD my Curriculum Vita with things I do not know. If I have personally done it and accomplished it, it’s not bragging. And people like me are hated especially when we answer the question, “How did you do it? How did you figure it out?” And I always answer with “I prayed about it. I prayed for Wisdom.” and then share the verse, copy paste from the Bible App I finished.

      https://www.christianlifegroups.com/

Yes, I boast in the Lord. 🙂 \o/

And that offends a lot of people 🙂

    1. CW, i agree with Consulting Calendar just to be kept at AGDT and NOT here. (That’s a priority for client managers, before any probono work).

DBA, I agree with putting donate button back. (I didn’t agree with removing it to begin with – opensource developers need that and put that even in the apps they make – it’s not a requirement to pay, but a voluntary thing for their users to have.)

I thought we all can put our paypals if we want to! LOL! It’s just a link …

  3. LIKE! (The blog post/comment)

I agree with Dev! Just put the Donate button back! If you don’t want to put the calendar here for upfront payments.

  4. You should. You have the patience and aptitude for it! You can use me as a reference if you want. Plus it’s remote. 🙂

But I think they rely heavy on P2, so you can create an account there and test it out, before applying so you know. I learned they hire people on and then they work on Test Projects. 🙂

    1. Yes, we all can check it out! Con, how about you create an account and then those of us consultants can just test drive it using that one account?

  5. You can create an account there if you want and it would need a couple others, we can maybe ask others to help test it out too. Since you mentioned it the other day.

  6. Well, you had trepidations about it, which I considered too. But go ahead and if you will apply at WP, create an account. I’ll help you test if you want to bounce off findings about it too.

  7. I just thought that P2 is good for onboarding training. So each person logging in have a checklist of stuff to do FIRST, and then there’s progress on it.

I remember many MANY years ago I worked on a script with hierarchy, the next path depending on the answer clicked.

Also I worked on an online encryptor decryptor. Handy then. But now there’s no need since we have Signal App with option to disappear texts. and it’s already encrypted anyway. Who knows what app would work best next. 🙂

  8. I vote to bring back Marketplace!

Just provide free U.S. Shipping, have the vendors include the shipping price to the item price. I have stuff to sell!

  9. Yeah, let’s vote on it. I mean, if we put the Marketplace here, I would have to

study the State and Local Tax reporting on it,
then program it and test it against all the Zones in the U.S., plus varying State and Local Sales Taxes,

I remember spending a week of programming and testing at the AGDT ecommerce site, then at AXN, then here at SH, plus the individual coding for each vendor, it’s mind numbing coding and testing. Yes there are software that can do that (Software as a Service) which would be additional cost, but since it’s my name and tax number at stake, I have to personally make sure that the coding is correct. So, that was why I did the “shorter cut” of programming it myself so I know that if there were any errors, they were mine. 🙂

Then there is the payment gateway programming and pay split-ups, Percentage Item + Shipping Fee + Transaction Fee.

Then provisions for returns and calculations for refunds, less shipping cost.

    All that jazz.

Easy to vote, tedious to program. I can do it since I’ve already done it. But the question for me is if I still want to do THAT type of mind numbing programming.

    NOPE.

So, I point people to just sell on e bay or am azon. 🙂 or FB Marketplace if they want.

  10. Also, since we might be selling used stuff, consider just donating it, and get a donation tax receipt so you can include it in next year’s tax return. Less headache. 🙂

    1. LOL! Yes! I forgot it’s your time that’s going to be used up putting it all back again!

  11. I thought about what you asked – on SH Forum, versus CLG SF in terms of life discussions and discourses.

I agree with you on keeping the CLG bible app in a separate portal joined with the Tech Forum.

So basically the “audience” for CLG SF is for Believers.

The “audience” for SH Forum is for everyone else.

    – Like other Admins you train and help,

    – but then when you go for your mission trips, you also need a spot where you can upload videos and pictures so that it’s easier for you to ask for help in behalf of others and also to point other people to help those people directly, too, without having to pass through you.

    – i vote to bring the Marketplace back because i have friends who saw/see the screenshots of what we did two years ago, and said it was a brilliant idea and if we put it back, that they will sell here instead of e b a y or a m a z o n, because of the rates they deduct and customer service.

I think that if you wrote an ebook on how you did that and if you sell it, people will buy it so they can do it on their own too.

My biggest concern is the amount of Tech Time you would have to put into all these and the monitoring it will require for web security.

I can always volunteer my time when I am able to, but I just don’t want you to get too overwhelmed by it. And I “geddit” that you publish what you publish! It’s brilliant!

We can all just make SH our “social media” for the stuff we do =)

Sorry I wasn’t able to join you guys last weekend. Text me again next time!

  12. I agree with DBA, except for the returning of the Marketplace, and now after reading what CW wrote on why working on the sales tax coding stuff would be something she doesn’t want to do anymore, maybe one of the other consultants here can pick up where she left off.

It all can be put back as a Forum instead, where people can still post their pictures, and people can just hit reply.

It all will be public through, but if the intent is to publish what’s for sale and how to buy it – we still have the Private Messaging that CW tweaked.

The PM can also be used for submitting resumes one on one, because if I remember correctly, CW’s PM app has the functionality to attach files.

I would suggest though to just attach jpgs and pdfs.

Also, before activating the PM app, to include verbiage that those messages WILL be monitored by Admins, to keep everyone secure and prevent malware and spam from getting spread or sent.

I think the PM also keeps all the messages in the server and not automatically sent to the Member. This is as a precaution to protect Members. And each message, like in each Forum Post, has a “Report to Admin” functionality, so ANY of the many admins we have here can step in and instantaneously ban.

On the CLG SF – CW want to keep it exclusively to “Believers”.

I think that it would be good to have a “CLG newbie or on the fence” Forum here, so the non believers can ask questions too.

I also think that the CLG SF could be integrated into the SH Forum. For easier Tech Maintenance.

While I know CW wants to keep the CLG Tech Forum private to us, and separate from the CLG SF, the monitoring, maintenance of both public CLG SF and public SH SF Is confusing and time consuming for all of us.

We ALSO have other portals we maintain and monitor.

The idea of CW on “keeping it simple” can be reduced to just “blogging” about it and having the comments section open for “X number” of days.

The contact form can also be used for submitting comments. Those are my thoughts on this.
