    Consultant : Hey
    CrisW : Hey back. πŸ™‚
Consultant : Did you get it?
CrisW : Nope. But I like honest people. πŸ™‚
    Consultant : Good!
Consultant : What’s the name of the company?
CrisW : Not at liberty to say…. πŸ™‚
Consultant : Were you working at another set of share codes? I noticed it earlier but it’s gone now.
CrisW : Yes, I tweaked it a little bit and and shared the code on a pdf file
    Consultant : Helpaholic much?
    CrisW : lol!
CrisW : I noticed errors, on their website, and I know it’s an EASY fix for me.
Consultant : You need to be selling your codes or billing these companies for the time you spend sharing these things!
CrisW : Well, if they knew how to do it, they would not have done those mistakes. I informed them of those errors a couple of days ago.
CrisW : And since I received a direct email from their top management person, I thought I might as well just type a step by step How To.
    Consultant : LOL!
CrisW : Yes, even a newbie can fix it with the step by step that I wrote. They might not like that an outsider makes those suggestions, but if I was in that person’s shoes, I would appreciate the suggestion.
CrisW : I mean it IS embarassing when such simple errors are on ANY website. Especially one who says they are a global leader on some type of technology. Maybe their web person forgot to check how it all looks like in different sized devices. I just saw it on my iPhone, so yikes. Had to let them know.
    Consultant : Yes, helpaholic much!
    Consultant : You are!
CrisW : Hahaha! No, we can share what we know, we don’t know everything but in some areas, we do.
Consultant : Good they rejected you which means you’d stay with us longer!
    CrisW : Poor me!
    CrisW : lol!
Consultant : ok, what do we tweak this session?
CrisW : We go review CLG SF, and then Signal Me the suggestions.
Consultant : Just curious, how many consultants use this account?
    CrisW : Your Con account?
    Consultant : Yes
CrisW : I think just you. Since on the other portals, we assign one user per role.
CrisW : Except for the TestAccounts, anyone of us can go test it.
    CrisW : or use it
Consultant : So at CLG SF, what happens to all the users there?
CrisW : That’s what I am thinking about, because if I remove the other “users” and also the “test user accounts” – we will also lose the notes as observed while testing those accounts and specific user permissions.
CrisW : That was why I thought about just doing a fresh installation.
Consultant : Like what you did with your DART Team?
    CrisW : Yes.
CrisW : Or I could just create a private forum for all the old notes and tests and just keep it open to Admins.
Consultant : What about the access? you mentioned you wanted to keep access only to CFs.
CrisW : I can just change user names and emails to internal ones. OR, just write blog posts on the “Lessons Learned” while keeping timestamps intact.
CrisW : And then remove those forum posts altogether.
Consultant : But there is the Join Date on the Member Profiles.
Consultant : So those might be a database type of tweak.
CrisW : Yes. But if I just want to simplify and start from scratch, it’s easier for me to just do a separate and brand new installation.
    CrisW : One Hour tops.
Consultant : Yes, we should check the Dev site and see of they have released the bug fixes before you do that.
CrisW : Ok. Let me check.
CrisW : It’s still 1.9.6 version. We hold on then. My VA said he erroneously clicked a link that he should not have and have notified me to change my email once again. He said he might have subscribed me to some external email list.
Consultant : Just watch it and see if you get any more unwanted or unsolicited emails.
CrisW : Ok. Thanks for checking in! Can you copy this?
Consultant : Ok. Just text me for any updates.

  2. Con, we can divide some of the other sites too. WP auto updated the others sites (I received notifications – check our group email) and we can implement the CSS CW wrote on the Custom Codes on the other forums. We can also password protect those that we see errors on. And then just add the links to fix on draft post for today’s date. CW can publish when she’s seen and checked those too.

  3. Dev, you can also decide which ones to go “Under Maintenance” on. That was why I was warning all the Admins before to MAKE SURE that no auto-updates are enabled on your portals. Because there are different developers who create different plugins and more often than not, cause issues and errors, each time those different devs to updates. We see that a lot in other sites too!

Anyway, I have been getting too many requests for help on MP, so we can dig through old notes on the SF Forum on what we did there, and then we can reenable and retest with screenshots. If needed. I can grant temporary access on the SHF, so that they can see how tedious it was, even for us admins or techies here, to set that up. Unless they want to hire my entire team, which I doubt they would.

  4. I think we should just keep the Usernames naming convention as “Roles”. And then number them. I know 2 log in on this account.

  5. Other consultants want to keep anonymous. Plus it’s easier also to keep tech stuff and emails internal. You can create an account with your first name if you want your login distinct. When we finalize and trim the actual users and the test user accounts, it’s just easier, since everyone is posting on what they are seeing, dependent on the user permissions that they have. As far as Admins, we went through a couple of consultant admins, so it was/is better that they all just use that one account.

CrisW : Dev, your comments are automatically going into moderation, which generates an auto-email since Con authored this session date. Let’s bounce ideas here.
    CrisW : helllloooooooo
    Developer :Much better.
Developer :I kept on hitting refresh
CrisW : I was hearing the “ding-ding” on my the group email box. πŸ™‚ Please moderate! πŸ™‚
Developer : I really think you should package everything on a site.
CrisW : Con suggested that too.
CrisW : Like a create a course or an ebook.
CrisW : But with tech always changing and updating, the course would be obsolete by the time I finish it! πŸ™‚
CrisW :I have too many tabs open. Getting email notifications.
CrisW : Do you have moodle sites?
Developer : Yes. Not updating anything.
CrisW : Yes, just do as needed. If it aint broke don’t fix it. I’m getting alert fatigue!
Developer : What do you suggest to a client who know nothing about Php but wants everything?
    CrisW :Take a hike? lol!
    CrisW :Quantify everything….
    Developer : A fantastic homepage, a blog, a forum, a store, and a marketplace.
Developer :Also a group chat. Like what we have here.
Developer :I shared a link to this page. She said she wants me to build the same for her.
CrisW :Put it in a package. πŸ™‚
CrisW : Setting up a site is easy. It can be done in an hour. (At least for me). The issue is the customizations, website content, and most importantly, maintenance.
Developer : In your other site, how much time do you put, as turn around time?
    CrisW :10 business days.
Developer : But you can do it in an hour?
CrisW : Yes, because I have already developed my own theme, which took me several weeks to complete.
    CrisW : So I have a headstart.
CrisW : Since I developed the package myself, it’s easy to customize it per client.
CrisW : And then they get wowed, when I deliver it quickly plus quality.
Developer :I read your convo with Con. You didn’t get it?
CrisW : Yes, and it’s okay. I prayed about it. I had trepidations to begin with, but since someone referred me, I thought I’d see if they can use what I can offer. I was called a “novice” hahahaha!
    Developer : LOL! YOU??!!!
CrisW :LOL!!!! Yeah. It’s fine. It’s not my domain area of expertise. No one can be an expert on anything. So I just made a suggestion and shared my share script and tweaked it if they wanted to use it. I appreciated the heads up. And the candor. Truly. πŸ™‚
CrisW : No one can be an expert on anything. – EVERYTHING is what I meant.
Developer : I am not an expert on anything. LOL!
    CrisW : lol!
Developer : Hey share with me too!
CrisW : Go copy in the back end.
Developer : Sys reduced my permission level here.
Developer : I think to minimize number of admins here.
Developer : Im admin at CLG
    Developer : not here
    CrisW :ok, I’ll email u.
    CrisW :the revised code.
CrisW : Or better yet. I’ll make u Admin for this session. Remind me to revert back because others access the Dev account.
    Developer : Cool.

CrisW : So going back to your question, when you make your WP clean install, with the blog included, if your client wants a forum too, then create a separate installation, the store would be another installation.
CrisW : You can mix the store with the marketplace, so all the products can add to the number of products that’s being sold on the MP
Developer :I got left! You want me to copy?
    CrisW :YEs
Developer : I copied. Still got moderated.
    CrisW : Yes, I approved.
Developer : At least the chat auto refreshes still every hour.
Developer : How’d you do that?
CrisW :I wrote a script and put it on the theme functions file. You should be able to see it. I made you admin. Do you know where to look?
Developer : Yes, but I am afraid to make mistakes.
CrisW : When you look at any code, open a Notepad, and then just copy paste on their and make sure you don’t hit the “save” on the functions file.
CrisW : I wrote a “comment” on their the code is easy to find.
    Developer : Okay.
CrisW : Also, even if you hit the “save button by mistake, you’ll hit an error which says you have to SFTP. It’s a conflict I’ve noticed and so when I am doing tweaks on the backend or on core files, it’s an additional security step for admins.
CrisW : But you always need to have at least one other admin on ANY site. For the just in case you die or something, someone can take over what you’re doing. πŸ™‚
Developer : The “under the bus”
    CrisW : Yes.
CrisW : Or you know, if an Admin gets sick or something.
CrisW : So if your client wants to have “everything” on her site. be ready to train her. So that when your project is done, she can take care or maintain the site on her own.
CrisW : What I do is I am meticulous with documenting everything I have done, and so when the project is finished, I turn over project files.
CrisW : And documentation. Because clients usually Scope Creep. So be very detailed in your Project Quotation and Scope.
CrisW : Deliver what’s needed, nothing more, nothing less. If they want more, she should pay more. That’s when you charge per billable hour.
Developer : Thank you that makes sense. Some clients think it’s easy.
CrisW :Until you tell them how much it costs. And the amount of time a tech consultant actually spent in order to learn those.
CrisW : Another issue is SSLs. Payment Gateways for her site if she wants an ecommerce site and a Marketplace. She also has to have a Sales Permit. You know, like all that jazz. πŸ™‚
Developer : How about if I suggest to use Shop i fy ?
CrisW : Have you had experience with it?
Developer : What are the cons you’ve seen there?
CrisW : I’ve worked on several of those, my son also had several in his online businesses, and I just don’t see the logic in paying for a monthly shopping cart, when there is a FREE one which is easier to maintain.
CrisW :One negative I’ve seen there is you’d also need to hire a Sh o p i fy dev, if your client wants a nice looking “theme” – and then they would also have to spend time inputting web content, product pics etc. and then their content is stuck there. If they want to close their online shop, all their work (and traffic) is gone.
CrisW : So just suggest to use WP and Woo commerce. It’s free. And it’s there on their own site.
Developer : Ok. Will just go with what you suggested.
Developer :Do you still have the Dev License for the ticketing system?
    CrisW : Yes, why?
Developer : That was another thing she wanted, and an appointment scheduler.
CrisW : Those are two additional separate installations that you can blend in with hour theme.
CrisW : You can package all that. I haven’t changed the package price on that for several years now. It’s still $3,500.
Developer : So that’s the 10 Business Days turn around?
    CrisW : YEs
Developer : Can you put a Demo site here?
CrisW : With all that effort it will take me, I might as well just install everything here, and take screenshots of everything. Then if they ask you how much all that cost, then you can package it up between $3,500 to $4,000. It’s up to you how much you charge your clients. But that’s just like a regular going rate for all that type of work.
CrisW : Since I have the Developer License on those two other functionalities, I would have to install that myself, to make sure it’s installed right.
Developer : She might low-ball me on the price.
CrisW : Usually, those who don’t know tech think it’s “too much”. That’s why I have my appointment scheduler with a billable hour and package rates out there on my other site. People like to waste other people’s time and like free tips. Those who PAY upfront have skin in the game and have most probably decided to let someone else do it.
CrisW : So, just give your client your own quote and then let me know if she agrees to that rate.
CrisW : I mean, just explain us tech people also pay for our own courses and licenses, so, if she wants free, she can post her stuff on F B. Mark et place πŸ™‚
Developer :Can you help me out if the deal closes? Like maybe do web editing and suggestions too?
CrisW :Sure, you’ve helped me here too, so devs will help devs. πŸ™‚
    Developer :Thanks Cris!
CrisW : Any other questions? I’m going to start the resurrection of our Store here. And test.
Developer : That’s it for now. I’ll copy this. Thanks! I appreciate the help! We are ShallHelpers!!
    CrisW : Amen!
CrisW :Also, don’t be afraid to tell your clients if there are areas you’re not so familiar with. Everyone can learn new technologies. We were all once newbies. And I can’t let people argue their own limitations. So don’t let unbelief, or other people’s unbelief in you affect you. There’s always additional resources and help we can all tap, if we exercise humility in
CrisW : in asking for help. Don’t let pride get in the way.
Developer :I will keep that in mind! Thank you CW!
CrisW : U r welcome. And thanks for copying this on the session date!
    Developer : πŸ™‚
