  1. Decision Making Process:

    SH Portals
    1) Main Blog – AS IS
    /Blog
    – – Open Comments (auto close after x number of days)
    – – Will be used for Tech Session Dates, timestamps – In Comments: group tech talk, tips, ideas, rants, blurbs, code snippets, raw data, brain dump
    – Contact Page (for non Registered Members)

    2) Current SH Forum
    /Forum
    – will be converted to SH Tech Forum & will remain password protected. This will serve as SH Dev and Forum Testing Portal. (Like how I separated CLG Tech & CLG SF)
    – Convert current forum posts into blog posts.
    – then will be archived. Remove link on top menu

    3) I will do a fresh WP, DB installation, portal, then Forum
    /Others
    – – Latest Versions
    – – Test all modules
    – – – Simultaneous creation of How To Articles with screenshots, add to Knowledge Base / Documentation. (Make screenshots “generic” so it can also be used in other portals and by other Admins).
    – – Open Registration

    4) I will do a fresh WP, DB installation, portal
    /Stores

    – Marketplace (MP) & Auctions
    – – Manual Approval for Vendors
    – – Build Knowledge Base for Vendors

    – since the products that will be sold in the MP are mostly used stuff, need to figure out (then code & program) the following on it:

    4.1) Local & State Taxes – Product
    – this will be collected in behalf of the vendors then paid to the State Government

4.2) Shipping & Handling (USPS Flat Rate Boxes, or UPS or Fedex)

    4.3) Local & State Taxes – Shipping & Handling

4.4) Payment Gateway % of Total Fee (2.9%) – From Customer

4.5) Payment Gateway Fixed Transaction Fee ($0.30) – From Customer

    4.6) Less: Marketplace Fee 5%

4.7) Payment Gateway % of Total Fee (2.9%) – To Vendor

4.5) Payment Gateway Fixed Transaction Fee ($0.30) – To Vendor

So for #4, you can see why I just advise people to sell their items through either e bay or am a zon 🙂

For the 10% or 15% that they charge as marketplace fee, it’s the same type of process all ecommerce sites go through.

If we are to open our SH marketplace, 5% fee is i think reasonable so more product sale proceeds would go to the vendor.

There will always be risks in online sales. All vendors will be required to have a Business Paypal Account, so at least there’s that layer of being Paypal-approved for both Vendors and Buyers.

The risk is going to be for SH, because if a customer complains, it will be versus SH, since they bought the items here.

And if a product is returned or refunded, then there’s costs to that as well, as Vendors would have to shoulder that. Each flow of online payments have corresponding fees that payment gateways charge.

    1) Item Cost 2.9% + $0.30 – Customer to Marketplace

    2) Less 5% Marketplace Fee = Sub total

    3) Sub total 2.9% + $0.30 – Marketplace to Payment Gateway

    3) 2.9% + $0.30 – Payment Gateway to Vendor

    – 1,2 & 3 happens in addition when customers require returns or refunds. Vendors lose money on return shipping and payment gateway fees.

So those are some of the details to consider. That’s why I advise too, that you can ALSO just donate your items to goodwill, because they issue a tax donation receipt for your items, which you can also deduct from your taxable income come tax time. 🙂

I’ve decided to just do the MP and leave it open to Vendors that I know. It’s also good to have a simple non-demo ecommerce site I can point people to.

As far as Private Messaging – the MP has a Vendor-Customer Q & A, so these can also be published with the products. I have trepidations about the PM when I tested it before since there’s also room their for spam & unsolicited mail.

So that’s the plan. There are Vendors who are not really in a hurry to sell. They just want to put their items out there.

  2. I did above on my phone ^. I’m on laptop now. 🙂

I’ll break it apart and do them one by one. Timestamp on comments can give us an idea how long it takes me to do it.

    SH Portals

    1. DONE.

Here’s how to set your Blog Comment Settings:

      Go to
      1) WP Dashboard
      2) Settings
      3) Discussion

      3.1) Discussion Settings

      I Enabled the Following:

      Default post settings,
      – Allow people to submit comments on new posts

      Other comment settings:
      – Comment author must fill out name and email
      – Users must be registered and logged in to comment
      – Automatically close comments on posts older than – set to 7 days
      – Show comments cookies opt-in checkbox, allowing comment author cookies to be set
      – Enable threaded (nested) comments – set to 2 – levels deep
      – Break comments into pages with – set to 25 – top level comments per page and the – set to first – page displayed by default
      – Comments should be displayed with the – set to older – comments at the top of each page

      Email me whenever
      – Anyone posts a comment
      – A comment is held for moderation

      Before a comment appears
      – Comment must be manually approved
      – Comment author must have a previously approved comment

      Comment Moderation
      – Hold a comment in the queue if it contains – set to 1 – or more links. (A common characteristic of comment spam is a large number of hyperlinks.)

      DONE.

  3. 2) Current SH Forum
    /Forum
    – will be converted to SH Tech Forum & will remain password protected. This will serve as SH Dev and Forum Testing Portal. (Like how I separated CLG Tech & CLG SF)
    – Convert current forum posts into blog posts.
    – then will be archived. Remove link on top menu

  4. Okay, I just checked. currently SH Forum has about 1720 posts!

Converting all that into blog posts is going to be tedious.

Mostly, my notes on how I helped other Admins which included screenshots and code snippets …

… maybe we keep it password protected and then just move the activities for the item for later.

We can select those that are “blog-post worthy” 🙂

DO THIS ITEM LATER. (not a big priority, considering the 1720 forum posts! 🙂

  5. 3) I will do a fresh WP, DB installation, portal, then Forum
    /Others or /Forums
    – – Latest Versions
    – – Test all modules
    – – – Simultaneous creation of How To Articles with screenshots, add to Knowledge Base / Documentation. (Make screenshots “generic” so it can also be used in other portals and by other Admins).
    – – Open Registration

    1. CW Wait, I checked the Forum Dev site, currently there is a bug on the threaded layout that they are working on. Since you updated the CLG SF to the latest one, we can keep the current SH Forum for now until the devs are finished with the fix. It will be double work on screenshots for the KB.

I’ll help you test the next item on your list.

  6. 4) On Item 4, have you thought about using AXN or adding a Marketplace to AXN?

    1. That’s my brand though, and that’s for brand new products. So, the idea for an MP here, is for used stuff, as an alternative to e b ay for other people.

  7. You can write an article to teach them how to do it.

Just reading your comment “So those are some of the details to consider. That’s why I advise too, that you can ALSO just donate your items to goodwill, because they issue a tax donation receipt for your items, which you can also deduct from your taxable income come tax time.”

If there are people who ask for a demo site, point them to your ecommerce demo site. The people who ask for your help have no idea, therefore have no appreciation of the amount of time, skills, technical resource it takes to set a site up and working.

  8. I think the way you set everything up originally, works best and we’ve all tested everything to work.

It’s just a matter of you turning them all back up and re-enabling or reactivating things.

The direction of the site changed because of that “other organization calling you to help them”.

So, I actually totally agree with Dev on removing that article you published. Let that nightmare be on their site, not here. I’d much rather that you just started blogging about that experience more.

And ALSO publish your videos and your trips and your mission van and the prototypes you’ve been working on. I’m interested to look at that!

Just my 2 cents. And you’re up early! Good morning!

    1. I’d have to check, I also don’t update versions on Moodle, unless I absolutely need to.

    1. I’m an Admin. I don’t consider myself a moodle super guru, but I’ve set up several.

Sorry, I can’t give you access on that one. The members there are all my classmates in Med School – Clinical Research.

I just set it up as a repository for all our required readings and journals and research papers that we have to write. Also, because all of our classes were also being recorded, all our interactions were also being recorded. The videos are housed in the university portals, and so since I know how to embed, I’ve embedded those in Moodle. Because there’s a whole lot of videos and it’s easy to get confused which ones to watch. It’s important because we usually have to write Critique Papers or do peer reviews on Research Presentations, so I used Moodle and I called it my

      “Online Notebook.”

My classmates loved it, because it makes it so easy for all of us. I broke it down in weeks and classes too, and then so all the required readings and pdfs are in one spot, and only a click away.

I also have internal chat there.

My Online Notebook’s Users are all Scientists, Clinical Investigators, Researchers, Physicians, and other Professors needing credit for our “Continuing Education” Courses – but we are all classmates in those courses, so it levels the playing field. 🙂

They like that I shared my Online Notebook with them and gave them access to it. But the deal there is, of course, I will keep their email addresses safe since they are using their corporate or hospital email addresses.

  9. Thought I’d ask if I can take a peak inside. LOL!

I’ll give you “Teacher” access on mine. Can you take a look when you can? Give me feedback too?

    1. Cool. Sure. Text me on Signal log in details and password. I’ll be quiet while there. Will just give you my 2 cents too, on Signal. 🙂 Then revoke access when done.

  10. So since you made your point on the SH Portals, (that makes sense too) 🙂 , we tackle for this session date also

    CLG Portals
    5) CLG Main Blog
    5.1) /Blog
    5.2) Tech Chat
    – Note that there is a “Tech Chat” (on the main page),
    https://www.christianlifegroups.com/chat/

and then a “Share Chat” on the “Share Forum”.
    https://www.christianlifegroups.com/share/chat/

    – There’s verbiage there on:
“If you are looking for the Share Forums Member chat, please click HERE.”

I think I’ll do some CSS on both, so that it’s color coded, and easier to see that they are different chat rooms.

5.3) Contact Page (for non Registered Members)
    5.4) Terms
    5.5) Privacy
    5.6) Credits
5.7) Simplified – Time flies page

    6) Current CLG Tech Forum (old version) – (keep AS IS bec raw Bible Text is there, for easier editing)
    /Forum
    – Convert current forum posts into blog posts.
    – then will be archived. Remove link on top menu

    7) Current SH Share Forum
    /Share
    – formats and forums – copy to the new forum that will be installed. (keep as CLG Test Forum)

    8) I will do a fresh WP, DB installation, portal, then Forum
    /Live
    – – Latest Versions
    – – Test all modules
    – – – Simultaneous creation of How To Articles with screenshots, add to Knowledge Base / Documentation. (Make screenshots “generic” so it can also be used in other portals and by other Admins).
    – – Open Registration

    1. There were too many bugs that I found after the last update (at that time last year) and I just got frustrated when all the images and videos from the Tornado event and the links also broke the display and I was on the field that was when I decided to just put all the tech blurbs on the comments area. Back then even the Search in the Forum version had issues on not displaying some expected results, etc. And also the “Recent Posts” widget only had x number of days, and then those posts would no longer display.

That was an issue for me, because most of the important posts (like How tos) fall off the radar, unless you Sticky them all.

So I just password protected it all together. 🙂 It’s all still internal tech blurbs anyway after that. And plus I had a lot of field work and can’t monitor.

So as a Workaround, those types of articles should be in a “Documentation” file or Knowledge Base format, so they are easily available and retrievable.

      – So the chat disappears every hour
      – Forum posts don’t appear on “Recent Posts” after I think 30 days. (so even if you have 1,000 articles, if you click the Recent Posts, it will appear blank). Forums are good for community.
      – Blog posts are forever. 🙂 (or during the duration of publication)

Information is useless unless it can be easily retrieved. That’s an informatician mantra. That’s why there’s a science to information. Informatics.

      Let’s go!

  11. CLG Portals

  12. Then I changed the code FROM this:

    div#sac-latest-message{padding:5px 10px;font-size:14px;background-color:#d1d1d1;text-shadow:1px 1px 1px rgba(255,255,255,0.5);}

ALSO added this code to Custom CSS to jazz it up some 🙂

    /* Chat Box - Updated Codes*/
    div#simple-ajax-chat {
    width:100%;
    overflow:hidden;
    margin:0 0 20px 0;

  13. 5.3) CLG Contact Page (for non Registered Members) – DONE.

    https://www.christianlifegroups.com/contact/

“THIS FORM IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. NOT OPEN FOR ANY OTHER INQUIRIES FOR NOW.”

Remind me to remove those when we are done testing. They are here at SH and CLG.

Our testing is generating a lot of auto emails. Any inquiries using our contact forms would get lost when we do the mass deletions of the auto emails.

  14. 5) CLG Main Blog
5.1) CLG Blog Page – there’s an html page i made that directs to the blog-page – DONE
5.2) CLG Tech Chat Page – DONE

    5.4) CLG Terms Page
    5.4.1) CLG Comments Policy Page

    5.6) CLG Credits Page
5.7) CLG Simplified – Time flies Page

  15. 5.4) CLG Terms Page
    – I am going to redesign this and change it from four columns to three and prettify it a bit.

    – BEFORE look:

    BEFORE

  16. While looking and reviewing the CLG Terms of Service Page,

I had to create a Comments Policy Page as well (previously we didn’t need any comments policy. Since I added a Contact Us Form there, we have to make sure we are also covered by a Comments Policy. All sites need, at a minimum, Terms, Privacy, and Comments Policy is you open articles to comments, or also for contact forms.

You put that in place for the Company, or website protection, in case you have to ban someone from accessing your site, due to abuse or spam.

Since these spammers or abusera who do those acts via comment forms (covers online bullying too), Admins can have the authority to permanently ban, and if needed, report them to authorities and other websites who monitor stuff like that and share with other admins.

5.4.1) So COMMENT POLICY Page – DONE. (Scope creep out of necessity, since we are opening to public).

    Comment Policy

  17. 5.5) CLG Privacy Page

I will change this from 4 columns to 3 columns as well.

    The BEFORE look:

    Privacy -BEFORE

  18. 5.6) CLG Credits Page

The BEFORE look… looks like, well, that look always makes me smile. I’ll grow up a little bit and see if I can shrink some of the pics. 🙂

    Credits - before
