Cris What happens when we don’t post anything on a post, then just have Comments under it, does the entire Blank Blog post appear, WITH the comments, or does the ” ” ” “continue reading” command gets triggered?. Testing this post here and then, going to the blog page to see what appears: https://www.shallhelp.com/blog/
The “Continue Reading” appears ONLY when you put the “Read More” tag in the part of the post you want to cut-off at.
And the Comment / Reply will have 5 minutes to edit, before it posts, unless it is “moderated” after which a “prompt” displays which says” ” awaiting moderation”. So at least the commenter knows what’s happening.
If there is a Moderator on standby on the backend, they can actually see ALL the comments when they click or check the “Comments” section on the backend, even those that may not display yet on the Frontend.
Let’s go to CLG, and then if there are any technical issues, just post them here under this Session Post.
Currently there are 1860 Forum Posts on CLG. We will complete the app first, on the old WP and Forum version, and THEN migrate?
Yes. It has to be step by step.
1) We complete the data / text.
2) I’ll create a new instance of CLG with blank everything, just the WP oldest version.
3) I’ll upload an original / clean version of the Simplified WP Theme, without any of my code tweaks.
4) This new CLG instance should only have ONE super admin user.
5) Go to the database and export a backup of all the WP user tables and the all the forum tables.
6) Install new version of the Forum.
7) Import the exported backup to the new instance of CLG, on the backend database via MySQL.
8) Go to the Forum Maintenance and Delete all caches and rebuild phrases.
Doing it this way may be a “longer way” of doing it. BUT, for me, that’s the safest way, since we will do those steps anyway, when we migrate from host to host, or from domain server to another server, down the road. It’s better that you all learn how to do this by yourself too. Those are my tips and training. 🙂
If this migration falls flat on its face with too many errors, then we would still have the original CLG intact. I know there are plugins we can use to “clone” the site, but this is ACTUALLY a privacy issue. I do not want our user tables (with user name, IP address and email) cloned anywhere. I can always rebuild from scratch too. But I want to keep those 1000+ posts intact as well. Somewhere. 🙂
Going to CLG now. I remember we posted some of our tech blurb at AGDT. Do we extract those too?
My idea is to just consolidate all tech notes in one spot. Like here at SH. Those comments we have at AGDT can easily be migrated over, since we already have them in “Comments” under blog posts. But our priority for now is CLG. So we can upgrade as soon as all the text for the app is completed. See you at CLG!
