CW is out. She asked me to create New Session post for any new thoughts. DBA and I commented on old posts.
Thanks! I’m back!
Admins, i think we should also start publishing our old Admin Notes on how we tested the Forum versions and how we fixed the bugs. CW has not updated the CLG SF to the super very latest version, i think the current one is four iterations behind.
So if she updates the CLG SF – it would be like a “Test Forum” for SH Forum too, before we update the forum here.
CLG Tech Forum will never be updated she said. That’s AS IS.
Once the CLG SF is updated, we still keep our Tech Blurbs here, so that when CW agrees to my suggestion of JUST having this one public forum, all our notes are already here.
Brute, I am truly considering your great suggestion.
My motivation behind just having a separate CLG SF is so that new Christ Followers can have a place where they can fellowship with other Followers because it is hard to find these days. That could be open 24/7.
Having two separate Forums also help us keep one forum as a dev site, and one forum as a LIVE site.
ALSO, looking at the backend of BOTH sites, CLG is “impenetrable”. Hackers have been trying for many years now. We get helped by our Lord Jesus on that 🙂 Best security! 🙂
She had a checklist format on how to report bugs. Let’s just continue to use that.
CW said she might do the CLG SF update this weekend or when she gets home later. She wanted at least one other consultant to be online too so she can “bounce off”, but she was going to do it as soon as she can fire up her laptop. She usually goes back and forth and also work with the other devs and admins on the dev portal where she also shares her codes. The timezone differences and availability will always be an issue but we can always text too, so we can log in here when able. Mod said he is swamped too ATM.
I’m looking at doing it tonight. 🙂
Ok. Swamped too!
Btw, CW also looking for someone who can take over Sys account temporarily. Seems everyone is swamped. I can do it, but, I am also an admin so no need, I can also do what Sys can do.
CW just wanted our inputs on what’s been documented so far. Thanks!
Thanks everyone! Your contribution of time and expertise means a lot! I appreciate you all! 🙂
The MANY comments are dizzying me!
OK we go to CLG SF now and update and test and document stuff here.
CLG SF – Notes on my Notespad:
Forum Version currently at Version 1.8.4
Backend
1) Login via FTP to back up version 1.8.4
– always do this so in case the update is catastrophic, you can revert back. NEVER skip this step.
2) Create a folder on your laptop with the version#, in this case I created “forumv184”, then download the entire folder as a subfolder. This downloads the software. The contents are intact in the database. There’s only 3 files plus 5 directories, about 109,938 bytes.
3) Login to WP backend, go to plugins, click “Update Now” link.
– NEVER click the “Enable auto-updates” – this is what usually wrecks websites, when those different plugins have “auto updates” – these are done by many different developers and conflicts ALWAYS arises. When a System Administrator have that “manual” decision to update, IF something breaks, it’s easier to find out which plugin caused it.
4) Check your WP Version.
Version 5.5.4 (Latest version: 5.7.1)
Is this site discouraging search engines? Yes
CLG SF is now updated to 5.7.1.
– we are still using Classic. Let the old school style remain. 🙂
“The Classic Editor plugin prevents use of the new Block Editor. Change the Classic Editor settings. With this new version, WordPress brings you fresh colors. The editor helps you work in a few places you couldn’t before—at least, not without getting into code or hiring a pro. ”
We like getting into code. We don’t have to hire a pro, because we are all pros here. 🙂
5) Go through ANY Release Notes:
Dev Release Notes:
Added: WordPress 5.7 compatibility
Fixed Bug: Problem with the filter ‘not replied posts’ in recent posts page
Fixed Bug: Inactive user is shown in the footer latest member section
Fixed Bug: Wrong link to font-awesome icons
Fixed Bug: Threaded layout avatars size issue on high resolution screens

6) CLG SF now updated to Version 1.9.6.
7) Let the testing begin. 🙂
8) On the Backend go to Forum > Tools > Antispam
– make sure
“User is New (under hard spam control) during” still at first 5 Posts
“Min number of posts to be able attach files”
“Min number of posts to be able post links”
– I noticed I got kicked out. Logged back in and then saw blank page. Just refresh, goes back.
