Session: Aug 13 2020, Thursday

ShallHelp Chat Forum : Welcome to the Chat Forum! Chat sessions are automatically erased every 60 minutes. Just select the REFRESH link above to go to the latest chat session. We are glad you are here!

Consultant : Hey Cris, Switch me to DBA permissions.

Consultant : Hello

CrisW : Done. DBA, I swapped permissions with Con. Will revert you back to original.

CrisW : Con, can u copy paste on to a new blog post? (Not a forum post).

CrisW : We need to have all our tech notes, codes and observations, ALL of our tech chatter “searchable”. Because if forums have a 30 day visibility for posts, then much older posts – the important posts – the initial reviews – falls off the web visibility and thus, the search radar. We might as well just move those posts to our regular posts where it has a fighting chance of getting searched.

CrisW : In “informatician” speak – “information is only useful when it can be easily retrieved.” Otherwise, it’s just a memory that can get blown by the wind. hahaha.

CrisW : It could be perceived as “too much information” – but to the “searcher” it could mean the world.

Consultant : Thanks. Made a new post now. Will copy paste.

Consultant : Also, I visited the Dev site last night. The screenshots you sent was spot on. I think they took the tip on the search. (the Boolean reference to the search string using AND instead of OR). Let’s update!

Consultant : Although the other people you shared the tips with didn’t even waste a second to thank you.

CrisW : I don’t go there to be thanked. I help out individuals who are new admins and hopefully they learn and apply. When one learns something new, they get excited as the tip they received and have learned and applied, have actually worked. Human nature is they forget the source. It takes a real “mindful” person to go back to the source to thank the one who gave them the tip. I share my lessons learned there, not just for the individuals, but for the DEVELOPERS & their Support Team.

CrisW : Because I know they are not appreciated enough, or thanked enough, just by reading those new and “entitled” admin wannabe’s, who can’t face the reality YET that they don’t know the software YET and go and disrespectfully and often rudely, write stuff to the developers OWN website, how they have to be “bowed down to”. They write as if their “support team” is their outsourced and FREE tech support department. I can just feel the pain of the support team’s tech people. (I wouldn’t be as nice as they are, since you know I have no compunction banning abusive people).

  1. LOL! I posted the wrong date on the title! I corrected it now. The Chat Box on the bottom left corner is handy as a fallback, in case my comment goes to moderation. You want me to update the version? Robert rolled out a Version 1.8.3, with the reported bugs so they tweaked it. Let me know.

    1. Updated. Yesterday I also realized that our latest WP, had some issues with posting “code” and so the forum update had to tweak it to have WordPress 5.5 compatibility.

  2. I added columns on the posts to include backlinks to important tech posts so that it is easier for us to navigate what we are testing, adding and resolving. If a “comment” is important enough to be available via search, please update ANY posts and include it in the content, so our “theme search” can crawl and find it, whatever or whenever it was published, without being filtered to display or not display.

I did that because when I found from WITHIN the code that there was a filter of 30 days, I changed it into 365. And then I realized, hold on a sec, our portals are more than a year old, and this is an important compromise between “searchability” and “loadspeed”. I pick searchability.

ALSO, I know that “comments” are not searched (just like in FB or other social media sites unless you put a hashtag. A hashtag is all but a backlink, because the search is incapable of crawling comments unless you know which tables they are at in a database.

    Now too much information. LOL!

  3. Did some more testing on the Blog Post Widgets. Will update the Widget Post with the new codes. (we fix one area, we mess up another).

  4. I deleted all cache on MySQL server. I’m noticing the fonts are having that same old “flash” that appears old and then swaps into the new one. We have too many stylesheets.

    1. On the stylesheet, now I removed the

      /css2? family=Raleway&display=swap”

      and changed it to

      /css?family=Raleway”

  5. Also, the Moderation, even of admins, is also intermittently getting triggered. I think this is a WP core glitch – spam plugins – recaptcha, your guess will be as good as mine. Can you test on your phone again and see if there’s a difference?
